I bought this because although I have used other versions of Gimp for many years now, I would forget between times how I did something on Gimp. The Gimp tutorials are ok -sort of- but time consuming and then leave something to be desired. When I heard about this book, I wanted to get it, there are a lot of changes in the older versions of Gimp that are well covered in this book.
This book is clear and understandable. It is written by knowledgeable people for people who want to use Gimp without devoting hours upon hours learning by trial and error methods. They are good teachers. It is pretty easy to look up your problem that you want to solve, and it is amply illustrated with pictures for you to follow along with the text.
These writers understand that the combination of text and pictures are a good teaching combination. If there is a downside to this book, is that it is so large that you need a heavy weight to hold it open while you read it as you work on the computer Other Gimp tutorials are written by people who understand all the capabilities of Gimp, but are not such good teachers, so save your money and buy this book.
The time you save with using this book over trying to learn it yourself or by using Gimp tutorials written by programmers for programmers is worth a lot. I saved myself at least six hours of hunting for an answer the first day I had the book. I am not a professional, I use Gimp for family pictures, and ebay, and the photos that I start with usually are from an old outdated camera.
I also use Gimp for photo repairs for old torn genealogy pictures, which is a higher use of Gimp. Even using this as an average user, the book is well worth getting. It will save you time and frustration, for sure. I do recommend this as best in class. Gimp 2. Read full review by enjecb Feb 21, Da Gimp Great book, for a free software!
